Unaccustomed Earth: Netflix Releases First Trailer for Freida Pinto Series

Netflix released the first trailer for Unaccustomed Earth on Thursday (November 5), a new drama series exploring family conflicts, forbidden romances, and secrets within an Indian immigrant community in the United States. Starring Freida Pinto and Siddharth, the series premieres on December 17, 2026, with eight episodes.

Inspired by the 2008 short story collection of the same name by author Jhumpa Lahiri, the series tells a story about love, belonging, loss, and the consequences of choices that can transform an entire family’s life.

Set in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Unaccustomed Earth follows Parul Chaudhury (Freida Pinto), a wife and mother who decides to return to the United States with her family from India after receiving a cancer diagnosis.

Years earlier, Parul had given up the love of her life to fulfill her father’s wishes. Now, faced with a situation that completely changes her perspective on life, she finally decides to pursue what she believes she lost.

Her return to Cambridge brings Parul face-to-face with Amit Mukherjee (Siddharth), her former love. Their reunion rekindles feelings that never completely faded and sets off a series of events that threatens to change everyone’s lives.

Married to Jai Chaudhury (Indraneil Sengupta) and the mother of Kaushik (Adi Roy), Parul must deal with the consequences of her decisions as relationships within the community begin to change.

The story also follows other Indian and Bengali families living in the area. With friendships that have lasted for decades, the characters share traditions, celebrations, and a close-knit community life marked by emotional bonds, but also conflicts and secrets.
