I Play Rocky follows a pivotal period in Sylvester Stallone’s life, when he was still an unknown actor trying to establish himself in the film industry.

After writing the screenplay for Rocky, Stallone found people interested in producing the story. However, the people behind the project wanted to cast another actor in the lead role. Convinced that he had to play Rocky Balboa himself, Stallone turned down lucrative offers to sell the role and insisted on starring in the film.

That gamble became a turning point in his career. Released in 1976, Rocky won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Film Editing, launching a franchise that has endured for generations.
