The preview introduces Digory Kirke, played by newcomer David McKenna, and his uncle, Uncle Andrew, the magician portrayed by Daniel Craig. The adventure begins when Digory and his neighbor Polly Plummer, played by Beatrice Campbell, come into contact with magical rings that transport them to other worlds through an experiment conducted by the boy’s uncle.

During their journey, the pair accidentally awaken a sorceress who threatens the different worlds she encounters. In the trailer, Emma Mackey appears as the character, wearing a metallic dress and wielding a silver wand. The footage also offers a glimpse of Aslan, the lion responsible for the creation of Narnia.

The trailer features “Stairway to Heaven,” the classic song by Led Zeppelin, which is rarely licensed for film productions. According to the American press, the preview takes a modern approach to fantasy. Deadline described its visual style as a punk-rock-inspired reimagining.

Published in 1955, The Magician’s Nephew was the sixth book released in The Chronicles of Narnia series, but it is the first in chronological order. The story explores the creation of Narnia and the origins of the wardrobe that transports children to the magical realm in the series’ best-known installment, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. This marks the first time the book has been adapted for the big screen.

Plans to launch a new chapter in the franchise had been reported as early as 2025. Following the success of Barbie, Gerwig struck a deal with Netflix to write and direct two films based on the series. The partnership stems from a 2018 agreement between the streaming service and the rights holders, which brought plans to continue the previous film series, produced by Walden Media, to an end.
